This easy recipe for mulled wine is full of Christmas flavours. Use a decent bottle of red wine as the base, but you don't need to spend too much on it.

750mlred wine (Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon)
100mlweak Earl Grey tea
3tbspbrandyor more to your personal taste!
Wash the oranges in warm water, scrubbing them to remove any wax coating.
Cut the oranges in half lengthways, and then slice thinly into half-moons.
Pour the wine into a large saucepan. Add the tea, sugar, spices and fruit and stir over a low heat til the sugar has dissolved.
Increase the heat slightly and simmer gently for 15 minutes. It's important not to let the wine boil or the alcohol will evaporate - the surface of the wine should just gently shiver.
Stir in the brandy and taste. If required, you can add more sugar or brandy to the mulled wine at this point.
If you're making the mulled wine ahead of time, remove the fruit and spices to prevent their flavour becoming overpowering. You can add a garnish of fruit slices and spices when you serve the wine.When you're ready to serve the mulled wine, reheat it gently over a low heat to prevent the alcohol from evaporating.
